People who got it right

These are the instances where Jesus essential said, “well done” or “your faith has made you well” or “i’m astonished at your faith” etc… This is Jesus talking to an actual person and does not include parables, only when he essentially praises someone – responds to a behavior or a way of thinking positively.

Does Matt 12:46-50 apply for my relationships or just Christ’s? Is my girlfriend also my mom? Or my brother? Cause all of that just sounds weird.

Matt 3:1 – John the Baptist begins preaching, warns Pharisees, tells of one who baptizes with the Spirit and with fire

Matt 3:13 – John baptizes Jesus, God is “well pleased”

Matt 4:1 – Jesus is lead out to the wilderness, fasts 40 days, is tempted by the devil

Matt 4:12 – John is taken into custody, Jesus begins his ministry by preaching repentance like John

Matt 4:18 – Jesus calls first disciples Peter and Andrew, then James and John

Matt 4:23 – Jesus preaches the gospel of the kingdom and begins healing

Matt 5:1 – Jesus’ sermon on the mount, the beatitudes, parable of salt and light, warns to be more righteous than Pharisees

Matt 5:21 – Still sermon on the mount, says that sin is a heart issue, talks about the seriousness of sin – if your eye causes you to sin pluck it out and cast it aside, turn the other cheek, love your enemy

Matt 6:1 – Sermon continued, do good in secret, disciple’s prayer, fasting, wealth/treasures in Heaven, purity of eyes, anxiety

Matt 7:1 – Sermon continued, judging others, the Father gives good gifts, enter through the narrow gate, bearing fruit – good trees bear good fruit, bad trees bear bad fruit, house built on sand vs rock

Matt 8:1 – The centurion’s faith amazes Christ, Christ heals a leper and the centurion’s servant, Peter’s mother-in-law is healed by Jesus

Matt 8:18 – Jesus tells a scribe to “allow the dead to bury the dead”, Jesus calms a storm when the disciples freak out

Matt 8:28 – Jesus cast’s demons out into a herd of swine

Matt 9:1 – Jesus heals a paralytic says “which is easier, to say your sins are forgiven or get up and walk”

Matt 9:9 – Matthew is called, Jesus tells the pharisees to figure out what “I desire compassion and not sacrifice” means

Matt 9:14 – John’s disciples ask Jesus about fasting – new wine in an old wineskin

Matt 9:18 – Jesus heals many, including a girl who had died/was sleeping, ends with “the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few”

Matt 10:1 – Jesus gives the disciples ability to heal and cast out demons, instructions, etc – sheep among wolves, meaning of discipleship, rewards

Matt 11:1 – John asks if he is the Christ, Jesus responds and tells him he’ll die in prison

Matt 11:7 – Jesus speaks about John as being the forerunner and Elijah

Matt 11:20 – Jesus “woe to you (unrepentant cities)”

Matt 11:25 – Jesus says “my yoke is easy and my burden is light”, come to me

Matt 12:1 – Disciples pick grain on the sabbath, Jesus defends them, then goes to the synagogue and preaches on the sabbath

Matt 12:22 – Pharisees say Jesus works on behalf of satan, Jesus responds

Matt 12:30 – Jesus warns against blasphemy, the unpardonable sin

Matt 12:33 – Jesus says words reveal character, warns against a desire for signs, clears his human relationships in favor of a Heavenly perspective

Matt 13:1 – The parable of the sower, explanation of why he teaches in parables, the sower explained, then a string of parables: tares among wheat, the mustard seed, leaven, tares explained, hidden treasure in a field, a pearl, a dragnet

Matt 13:53 – Jesus returns to Nazareth to no honor

Matt 15:21 – Jesus heals the woman’s daughter (dogs feed on crumbs from the masters table), afterward heals crowds

Matt 16:1 – Pharisees ask for a sign from Heaven, disciples think he rebukes them for not bringing along any bread (but is really warning against the leaven of the pharisees)

Matt 16:13 – Peter confesses Christ is Christ, but then is rebuked “get behind me satan”, talks of the cost of discipleship

Matt 17:1 – The transfiguration, demon cast out of the boy (only comes out with prayer and fasting), two-drachma tax

Matt 18:1 – Who will be the greatest in Heaven, if your foot causes you to stumble cut it off, Jesus has come to save the lost, 99/1 sheep

Matt 18:15 – Church discipline, the power in praying in twos and threes, forgiveness (70 x 7 and the wicked slave who owed a billion)

Matt 19:1 – Jesus teaches on divorce & singleness, blesses the children

Matt 19:16 – The rich young ruler, the disciples’ reward

Matt 21:1 – Jesus rides in on a donkey, tosses the tables in the temple, curses the fig tree, authority is challenged (Jesus doesn’t answer them)

Matt 21:28 – Jesus tells the parable of the 2 sons, parable of the landowner (looking for the fruits of his land), the rejected stone becomes the cornerstone

Matt 22:1 – Parable of the marriage feast, tribute to caesar, sadducees ask about the woman married 7 times, what is the greatest commandment, “how is the Christ Lord and son?”

Matt 23:1 – Jesus harps on Pharisaism, warns them with “woe to you” eight times, laments over Jerusalem

Matt 24:1 – End times – signs of Christ’s return, be ready for his coming

Matt 25:1 – Parable of the ten virgins, parable of the talents (5 made to 10, 2 made to 4, and the 1 taken and given to the one who had made 10)

Matt 25:31 – The judgement, seperating the sheep from the goats, feeding the poor, ministering to the prisoners, etc

Matt 26:1 – Chief priests plot to kill Jesus, woman anoints Christ for burial, Judas’s bargaining

Matt 26:20 – Last passover, Lords supper

Matt 26:36 – Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus’ betrayal and arrest

Matt 13:22 scares me to death. Particularly the part about the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of money keeping people from Heaven – most people I know, including myself, have problems in one of those two areas.

Matt 21:28-32, Luke 15:11-32

Matt 21:28-32 & Luke 15:11-32 are very similar stories – never noticed that before. Both are about the prodigal sons, but told in slightly different ways – but with the same point.
